Reflection on Psalm 23:1

Today’s Gospel

Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.

When reading this verse, many people are touched and feel confusion: God is our shepherd, who provides us with life all the time. With God’s unending provision of life, we will lack nothing. But now, we feel weak and withered in spirit, gain no inspiration from the Bible, do not feel moved when praying, and do not feel the Lord’s presence. We even follow the evil trends of the world, covet the pleasures of the flesh, and are not hateful of sin. Since we are living in such a situation, is God still our shepherd?

Many pious believers are crying out to God, “O Lord, where are You? We are weak and passive and need Your supply of our lives …” In fact, God has always been providing sustenance for our lives, but we have not kept up with God’s work, so we have fallen into darkness and can’t receive the supply of life. Just like when the Lord Jesus came to do the work of redemption, the temple, once so full of Jehovah God’s glory, became desolate. The Jewish people didn’t hold to the laws, improper sacrifices were made, and the temple became a place of trade, a den of thieves. They had lost God’s provision and fallen into darkness.

This was because the Lord Jesus had already become flesh, opened up the Age of Grace, and carried out the work of redeeming mankind and the work of the Holy Spirit had moved from the Age of Law to the Age of Grace. Those who accepted the Lord Jesus’ work of redemption obtained the work of the Holy Spirit and gained sustenance in life. Those who didn’t accept or even resisted the work of the Lord Jesus were eliminated by the work of the Holy Spirit, lost the supply of God’s life, and could only fall into darkness and desolation.

We are now at the end of the last days. Great disasters have begun and prophecies of the Lord’s return have been fulfilled. The Lord Jesus has returned already, and He has expressed the truth and performed the work of judgment beginning with the house of God, to purify and save all those who accept God’s work of the last days. The Holy Spirit’s work has in turn shifted to God’s work of the last days. Those who accept God’s work of the last days receive the work of the Holy Spirit, and are watered and supplied by the living water of life, and their spirits are content. However, those who reject and even resist and condemn God’s work of the last days have lost the work of the Holy Spirit, cannot be supplied with the living water of life, and have fallen into darkness and desolation. Therefore, if we want to gain the work of the Holy Spirit and the watering and supply of the living water of life, we must welcome the return of the Lord Jesus, find our true shepherd, and accept the work of God in the last days. Only then can our spiritual weakness and negativity be resolved at the root of the problem. At that time, it will be practical when we say, “Jehovah is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
